China Mobile and Datang Telecom Group Signed Strategic Cooperation Agreement to Promote TD Development 2011-10-08

On Sep. 6th, China Mobile Limited (China Mobile) and Datang Telecom Technology & Industry Group (Datang Telecom Group) signed a strategic cooperation agreement to promote the development of China’s indigenous technology TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE. Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology Shang Bing, China Mobile President Wang Jianzhou, Datang Telecom Group Zhen Caiji attended the signing ceremony.

TD-SCDMA is the 3G international technology standard proposed by China, and TD-LTE, the evolution for TD-SCDMA, is China’s next generation of mobile communication technology. China Mobile and Datang Telecom Group are committed to TD-SCDMA R&D and its international commercialization. The Framework Agreement will deepen the bilateral cooperation. Under the agreement, the two sides will establish strategic cooperation partnership in technology and standard R&D, TD-SCDMA large-scale commercialization, TD-LTE test and industrialization, international promotion of TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE.

The cooperation will give full play to each party’s strength in TD-LTE technology, standard and industry chain. Datang Telecom Group and China Mobile will intense their cooperation in mobile communication technology and standard, and give their unwavering support to TDD for more frequency resources and development. Under joint efforts, the Agreement will set a good example for cooperation between upstream and downstream hi-tech industrial chain.

The cooperation in TD-SCDMA, TD-LTE system equipments, terminal chips, instruments and meters will give a boost to TD-SCDMA commercialization and its international competitiveness, also to TD-LTE comprehensive test and industry chain development.

The two parties will also work together to explore TD international market, enhance TD’s international influence and competitiveness. Till the end of June 2011, there are 199 thousand TD-SCDMA base stations in China, covering 238 cities and 3.7 million users, which has hit one-third of the market. TD-LTE has also gained support and recognition from the international carriers. Now there are 32 TD-LTE test networks around the globe, and more than 10 international carriers announce their business plan for TD-LTE. In next January TD-LTE-A will be approved by ITU as international 4G standard.
