Wireless Communication Prospect of 2011—Surging Big Flow Server Sees Coordination of Multi Networks Era 3 July.2011

Accelerating cooperation and mutual benefit between instruments and meters

 

At the end of 2010, the 10th Information Industry Important Technical Invention Selection results issued by MIIT (Ministry Of Industry And Information Technology) revealed that five major techniques involving communication, multi-media, medical treatment and other areas were in the list. Among those, two items of major information industry technique inventions involved two fields—supporting IP backbone network’s sustainable development and realizing heterogeneous network’s in-depth convergence through 1 like 5 unified core framework . These two inventions injected new technique vitality into the new generation of broadband mobile communications development, and consequently provided strong supports to 3G’s rapid development and fully evolution into LTE in a deeper level.

 

“ALL IP” of communication industry involved in 3G-LTE evolution

 

IP-based mobile network has been the highlight in operators’ network transformation in recent years. ALL IP became the new pronoun of telecommunications after its restructuration, and the relative industry chain solutions were being highly discussed in varieties of communications media and forums for a time.

 

Increasingly more popular mobile internet business put forward more urgent demands for end-to-end IP network. On account of current developments and challenges of the business, industry insiders reached a common viewpoint that 3G’s continuously boosting toward LTE is practically IP-based transformation. Following the generation based in voice services, soft switch and IMS are two separate stages in PSTN’s evolvement into MGN. These two stages would coexist through mutual communications for a long time, and eventually get integrated into IMS structure.

 

Penetration rate continuously increasing, 3G drove into fast track

 

At the end of 2010, 30 nationwide large-scale constructions preliminary completed. China Mobile’s 220 thousand base stations covered 339 cities, over 97% of China Unicom’s 355 local network covered 3G network, and China Telecom’s 3G network covered 342 prefecture-level cities, 2055 county-level cities and over 20,000 villages and towns. All these constructions established solid network conditions for rapid developments in 2011.

 

3G’s development speed in last year far exceeded the overall increase of mobile communication and 3G users reached 38% of all newly increased users. After the big-scale construction completion and users incentive mechanism implemented during the early stage of commercialization, 3G will enter blowout stage of development in 2011 and 3G mass application period is upcoming.

 

Concerning above issues, Cao Shu Min, vice president of Telecom Academy of Sciences of MIIT expressed that, through stimulations of large-scale network construction and users incentive policies as well as exploration of network optimization, business cultivation and business mode, 3G has entered a rapid growth period. 3G will increase fast from 5% of current user penetration rate to probably 10% and reach blowout development stage in 2011.

 

Network broadbandization brings new challenge for 3G network’s deep optimization and special scenes coverage. Meanwhile, different frequency bands of multiple network issued new requirement on equipment like radio frequencies and antennas. Especially for TD network, smart antennas and multiple antennas will be more widely adopted to bring TD techniques into better play.

 

Multiple network synergy, Wi-Fi becomes focus

 

Stimulated by mobile internet business, Wi-Fi, growing into operators’ focus business from root level, has assured by three major operators as the wireless broad technology developed together with 3G and LTE. This could be revealed from multiple Wi-Fi tenders issued by operators from 2009 to 2010.

 

Under three major operators’ positive deploy, Wi-Fi has reached unprecedentedly strong mutual development with 3G. MIIT’s data reveals that, Wi-Fi shipment reached 700 million and operators’ Wi-Fi hot spot get 285 thousand in 2010, all of which pushed WLAN/ 2G/ 3G/ LTE multiple network synergy development into critical period.

 

However, it is also realized by industry chain that Wi-Fi is separate from 2G/ 3G network currently. Wi-Fi will be built as a more mature business model in the future. In 2011, the initial stage of LTE deploy, maturity, spread and cost performance of LTE cannot compete with Wi-Fi, therefore, WLAN and LTE are in the situation of competition and mutual replenishment. Nevertheless, compared with WLAN, system architecture of LTE is more suitable for operation and management, and operators will pay high efforts on LTE carrier-class network quality as well.

 

More development opportunities probably for Femto

 

Market research institute Informa’s latest market analysis report issued in the end of December showed that, 2011 will become the first year of an era for Femto’s rapid development.

 

Femto received wide recognition in 2010. Currently, after US three major operators introduced Femto services one after another, T-Mobile will process Femto trial operation. Meanwhile, Vodafone, Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far Eas Tone and AVEA plan to deploy Femto in 2011. In industry chain personages’ view, integrated Femto is a mainstream development direction as well. Part of Femto family base stations will be merged together with equipment like Wi-Fi AP or Home Gateway, in the form of independent integrated family gateway.

 

Among operators, China Unicom has completed WCDMA Femto platform construction, back-office support reconstruction and technique training in 10 provinces. China Unicom will initiate to realize FMC business through Femto, and launch featured services including LBS and content delivery in 2011.

 

China Mobile proceeded friendly users experience in advance in Shang Hai in 2010. Specific to business model, TD Femto designed corresponding emphases for family users and enterprise users, highlighting China Mobile’s transformation needs to develop family users and enterprise accounts. After actions in Shang Hai, China Mobile is believed to conduct TD Femto pilot projects in more cities in next step.

 

LTE steps into commercial watershed

 

Just as LTE World Institute’s forecast, 2011 will be the year for LTE’s significant development. 132 operators from 56 countries and areas deployed LTE network in 2010. Europe and North America will become leading areas for LTE commercial deploy. For TD-LTE, under the cooperation between China Mobile and industry chain enterprises, TD-LTE is expected to sign over 20 contracts, build 12 trial network and 4 commercial network over the world. TD-LTE multi-city-scale experience is the key project among all the above projects, which will stimulate continuous innovation of TD-LTE industry chain in equipment, terminal and application, and complete the transformation into 4G evolution.
